Samsung Donates $10,000 to Newberry County Teachers for Amazon Wish Lists

Generous Gift Boosts Classroom Resources Ahead of New Academic Year

Columbia, S.C. – In an uplifting gesture, Samsung has added a spark of excitement to the upcoming school year by donating $10,000 to the hardworking teachers of Newberry County. This donation, in the form of a check presented by CEO Jeremy Lee, is set to support teachers’ classroom Amazon wish lists, bolstering resources where they’re needed most.

A Surprise to Remember

During a back-to-school meeting on Friday morning, the atmosphere was buzzing with anticipation as teachers and administrators gathered to discuss goals for the year. Little did they know, a monumental surprise awaited them. Shortly after Superintendent Alvin Pressley outlined the district’s aspirations, Lee stepped into the room with an oversized check. Joy and appreciation filled the room as educators realized the significance of this contribution to their classrooms and students.

In explaining Samsung’s choice to support Newberry County schools, Lee said, “Good teachers make good students, that’s my experience, so supporting teachers is the best way to improve our students’ abilities.”

A Long-standing Partnership

Newberry County has been home to a Samsung home appliance plant, providing jobs for many local parents and former students. This latest act of generosity highlights the company’s ongoing commitment to the community and its educational institutions. Superintendent Pressley emphasized the importance of this partnership, noting, “It is huge, it really highlights the partnership of Samsung with the school district of Newberry County and their commitment to making certain that our schools, students, and teachers have what they need for a successful school year.”

Impacting Lives Beyond the Classroom

Veteran teacher Brian Redd, who has dedicated 29 years to Newberry High School and recently earned the title of Teacher of the Year, shared his thoughts on Samsung’s contribution. “We don’t do this for the income, we do it for the outcome, and obviously with what they are doing here, the outcome is meaningful,” Redd said. He praised the impact of such investments on the community, adding, “This is a special place, it’s home, it’s a small-town environment, it’s a great place to raise a family, a great place to bring kids to go to school here. It’s just a special place and it means so much, not for me it’s not about me it’s about the kids, the teachers, and what we are trying to do for the community.”

The $10,000 donation will go a long way in ensuring that teachers feel valued and supported, allowing them to better equip their classrooms and provide quality education to their students. This act of kindness is yet another reminder of the profound impact that community and corporate partnerships can have on local education systems.
