LAURENS COUNTY, S.C. – A tragic event unfolded yesterday afternoon that led to the loss of a life and an intense blaze along Interstate 26. The incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. on the westbound side of I-26 near mile marker 55.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a catastrophic crash happened when a tractor-trailer collided with a disabled pickup truck that was occupied and pulling a camper. The driver of the pickup truck was in the process of changing a tire in the emergency lane when the unexpected event occurred.

**The Collision and Aftermath**

The tractor-trailer not only hit the pickup truck but also struck the driver who was in the midst of changing the tire. Following these collisions, the large vehicle veered into a guardrail before plummeting down an embankment where it erupted into flames.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, identified as 64-year-old Mark Anthony Bigby of Anderson, tragically lost his life in the ensuing fire. This fiery scene in the ravine was a devastating sight.

The driver who was changing the tire sustained injuries and was promptly transported to a nearby hospital. A passenger who was also in the pickup truck at the time of the incident, fortunately, did not suffer any injuries.
