Orangeburg Hosts 2024 South Carolina High School Football Championships

Orangeburg, South Carolina, is the center of attention this weekend as it hosts the 2024 South Carolina High School League’s football state championships. The championship games are taking place at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium, located at 300 College Ave., from Thursday, December 12, through Saturday, December 14.

Exciting Matchups and Results

The championships kicked off on Thursday with two thrilling games. In Class 2A, the Clinton Red Devils triumphed over Barnwell with a final score of 35-6. Quarterback Tushawan Richardson not only threw for a touchdown but also scored one himself, leading Clinton to their ninth state title and their first since 2009. The Red Devils’ running game was impressive, accumulating 312 yards. Richardson led the charge with 106 yards rushing, while teammate Javen Cook added 93 yards. Barnwell’s only touchdown came from Jaquan Peeples, who notched a spectacular 77-yard kickoff return early in the game.

The Class A championship featured the Abbeville Panthers defeating Cross decisively with a score of 58-20. Quarterback Demarcus Leach produced nearly 200 yards of offense and accounted for three touchdowns. The Panthers demonstrated a commanding running game, racking up an impressive 429 yards on the ground. Teammate Jha’Louis Hadden contributed with two rushing touchdowns, helping secure Abbeville’s thirteenth state title.

Upcoming Championship Schedule

The festivities continue on Friday, December 13, with key matchups in Class 5A Division I and Class 4A. At 2:06 p.m., Dutch Fork will face Summerville in a highly anticipated game. Later that evening, South Florence will take on Westside at 7:36 p.m.

On Saturday, December 14, fans can look forward to more action with the Class 3A game at 12:06 p.m. where Oceanside Collegiate will meet Belton-Honea Path, followed by the Class 5A Division II match at 6:06 p.m. between Irmo and Northwestern.

Tickets for the championship games are priced at $15 and can be purchased through gofan.co. Notably, the stadium will be cleared after each game, meaning fans must have a new ticket for every game. Gates open one hour before the start of each game, with home fans entering through Gate 1 and visiting fans using Gates 1 and 2.

Parking is available at the stadium, with lots opening 1.5 hours before the first game. A fee of $10 per car applies, while vehicles with trailers or RVs will incur a fee of $50 for parking. Tailgating is permitted when the lots are open, providing a festive atmosphere for fans.

All six championship games will be broadcast on local Sinclair Broadcasting stations across South Carolina.
