Cheverus Senior Lucy Johnson Wins Prestigious Miss Maine Field Hockey Award

Portland – In a remarkable achievement, Lucy Johnson, a senior at Cheverus High School, was honored with the prestigious Miss Maine Field Hockey award on Sunday. This accolade, celebrated during the Maine Field Hockey Association’s annual awards banquet in Augusta, recognizes the outstanding senior player in the state.

Lucy, who has set a new record in the state with 152 goals, follows in the footsteps of her older sister, Lily Johnson, who won the same award last year. This makes them the first sisters to receive the honor in consecutive years, highlighting their family’s impact on the sport. With her recent award, Lucy capped off a stellar high school career where she won 71 of 72 games and led the Stags to their first three championships, securing titles in 2021, 2023, and this fall.

“It’s great and I’m glad that (Lily) and I get to share this bond,” Lucy said. Reflecting on her journey, she added, “When I came to Cheverus as a freshman, I loved the sport and I knew I was going to work hard, but I didn’t think this would be the outcome. I’m so happy it was. I couldn’t have done it without my teammates. We just wanted to set each other up for success.”

In addition to her impressive high school accomplishments, Lucy Johnson plans to continue her field hockey career at Boston University next year, furthering her passion for the sport and aiming for greater achievements.

As the award ceremony wrapped up, it was evident that both Lucy and Lily Johnson have made a lasting impact on Maine field hockey, inspiring future generations of players.
