Get Ready for a Merry Celebration in Laurens!
As the holiday season quickly approaches, residents of Laurens are gearing up for an exciting array of festivities that promise to get everyone in the festive spirit. In collaboration with Main Street Laurens, the city has revealed a jam-packed calendar of events to celebrate the magic of Christmas and the warmth of community. So, mark your calendars—there’s so much to look forward to!
Kick-Off with a Tree Lighting Ceremony
The festive fun kicks off with the official tree lighting event on December 6th from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. This year, the event is bigger than ever with plenty happening throughout the day. “We’ll have Santa’s Village and the Holiday Vendor Market open at 3 p.m.,” said Lisa Canada, the Marketing Director. “Martha Franks will have a booth featuring homemade goat milk soap, crocheted items, and other unique crafts—proceeds will benefit their senior living program.”
Shopping opportunities abound with local vendors showcasing everything from homemade ornaments to jewelry. And let’s not forget about the tasty offerings from Sanitary Market with craft beer available for those looking for a cheerier sip!
The tree lighting ceremony itself will take place at 7 p.m. and Santa will be on hand for the festivities, alongside Mayor Nathan Senn. After the tree lights up, families can enjoy the annual illuminated bike ride around the square. There will be carriage rides available as well, adding an extra touch of charm to this already enchanting event.
Holiday Fun Continues!
The following day, December 7th, is filled with more holiday excitement. The Holiday Market returns from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., alongside those beloved carriage rides. And if you love parades, you won’t want to miss the annual Laurens Christmas Parade kicking off at 4 p.m. “It’s a big, free community event and really the official start of our holiday season,” Canada shared. Many local businesses like Jersey Mike’s are stepping up as sponsors, while cookies provided by Groucho’s Deli will sweeten the day as Mrs. Claus hands them out!
The community’s response has been fantastic, with more businesses joining in. “Southern Twist will even have pictures with the Grinch—how fun is that?” Canada adds. Be sure to keep an eye on their Facebook page for all the updates you’ll need.
A December Full of Joy
As December rolls on, Main Street Laurens has even more events in store! On December 13th, get ready for a Holiday Wine and Chocolate Tasting. Guests will have the chance to stroll around the square, tasting a variety of local wines and delicious chocolates from different shops. “This is a fun way to invite people to shop while enjoying a unique experience together,” explained Craig Scharton, the Executive Director of Main Street Laurens. Perfect for a date night or a girls’ night out!
On December 20th, join the free community Christmas Cookies and Caroling event from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. This isn’t just another organized event; it’s all about keeping things organic and inviting everyone to come out to sing carols around the square. Local businesses will provide their own Christmas cookies, creating a sweet atmosphere for the evening.
Get Involved!
And don’t forget about the window decoration contest taking place throughout the month. You can vote for your favorite festive window display until December 13th. Simply pick up a ballot at any merchant on the square and drop it off at Designs by D.
“Our last design contest was a great success with 800 ballots submitted, so we can’t wait to see what happens this time around,” Scharton noted.
As Laurens gears up for a festive month ahead, there’s no shortage of ways to get involved and celebrate the season with friends and family.
