South Carolina Town Sparks Bigfoot Revival with Hunter's Sighting

A South Carolina Town Embraces the Legend of Bigfoot

Welcome to Pomaria, a charming little town in South Carolina that’s making headlines not just for its picturesque views, but for the intriguing tales that lurk in the nearby pine forests. Recently, a local hunter reported an encounter so unusual, it has reignited the age-old legend of Bigfoot in our area.

The Encounter

On November 2nd, a hunter identified simply as “J.M.” had quite the experience. While sitting quietly in his ground blind, he spotted a 7-foot-tall creature that left him both stunned and curious. Clad in long brown hair with an ape-like face and long limbs, this towering figure appeared just moments before daybreak in Newberry County—only about 25 miles northwest of Columbia.

According to J.M.’s report, they locked eyes for what felt like an eternity—around 30 seconds—before the creature turned and faded into the woods. “I’m a police officer and had no clue what to make of it,” J.M. confessed. “But honestly, I’m convinced it was a Bigfoot.”

Investigating the Sighting

The sighting caught the attention of the Bigfoot Field Research Organization (BFRO), well-known for investigating such claims. Matthew Moneymaker, a researcher from the organization, followed up with J.M. and deemed his encounter credible. After all, this experienced hunter had spent years on the same property, witnessing wildlife and moments in nature, but nothing like this.

The amber-furred creature had seen J.M. from 20 yards away, and despite his instinct to investigate further, the hunter opted to retreat—perhaps wise, given the tales surrounding the legendary Bigfoot.

Bigfoot’s Historical Presence

This isn’t the first time whisperings of Bigfoot have surfaced in South Carolina. In fact, there have been 59 reported sightings across the state since 1964, with numerous accounts coming from our own backyards. An encounter from 1964 in Hampton County marked the beginning of Bigfoot folklore here, where a young boy reported seeing the creature while camping.

But Bigfoot isn’t the only cryptid in town. South Carolina is also home to tales of creepy creatures like the Lizard Man of Lee County, known for its red eyes and slippery skin, as well as the Boo Hag, infamous for its vampiric tendencies in Gullah/Geechee folklore.

Annual Celebration

Bigfoot Festival, giving residents and visitors alike the chance to celebrate and explore local legends. Can you imagine a day filled with live music, Bigfoot-themed crafts, and exciting storytelling sessions? It sounds like a way to mix fun and folklore, bringing the community together in a truly unique way!

The Power of Legend

Stories like J.M.’s remind us of the thrill of mystery that lives right outside our doors. Whether you believe in Bigfoot or not, these tales add an undeniable layer of whimsy to our charming town of Pomaria. The legends might just draw in curious souls from far and wide, all eager to learn more about the beast lurking in our forests.

The question remains: will we have more sightings as we move through the seasons? What other wonders—and mysteries—could the woods reveal? Only time will tell, but one thing is for certain: Pomaria’s got its eyes peeled for any sign of the legendary Bigfoot.
